Lettering-Fitches are great for pictorials or murals on walls made from bricks, stucco, concrete and stone. We have stiff bristled hog hair Fitch styles for rougher surfaces and outdoor work. We also feature softer Fitches made of Russian Sable hair also available for smoother surfaces and work great on finer pictorial work. The word Fitches is old-fashioned term for Polecat. The Polecat is a weasel-like Eurasian mammal with mainly dark brown fur and a darker mask across the eyes, this explains the brown badger like  hair used on a Fitch. In North America the term for a Polecat is Skunk and the Black-footed ferret, similar in species but not in Fitch style hair. I think it's very interesting, if I were to describe a Fitch brush, a long pole or handle with hair short coarse hair like a polecat, so I declare Fitches to be the Polecat of Lettering Brushes. The word Origin of "FITCH" is from late Middle English (denoting the fur of a polecat): from Middle Dutch
